Tips
and useful information:
End
mill sharpening
Triple-T End mill sharpening is among the best in the industry.
Triple-T is able to sharpen any of your cutting tool requirements
in either HSS or carbide. All carbide end mills are completely sharpened
on CNC machines. Your carbide end mills are sharpened on all exposed
surfaces giving you the following benefits:
- Virgin carbide exposed on all cutting
edges
- Radial rake angles (hook) is maintained by grinding the inside
of the flute surface.
- Precise clearance angles are reground giving good as new cutting
action.
- Superior finishes on all ground surfaces
- Ground under a flood coolant to eliminate damage caused by over
heating.
This same quality is put into sharpening all HSS milling cutters
over ¾ diameter and all roughcut end mills regardless
of diameter. Triple-T also offers sharpening of special drill
points, arbor type milling cutters, blueprint specials, reamers,
counter bores, and many other types of cutting tools.
Sharpening End mills - End mills should be sharpened periodically
to maintain a keen cutting edge for reliable and efficient machining.
End mills that are sharpened before the cutting edges exhibit excessive
wear also provides another major benefit, that is, the overall life
of the end mill is extended because you need only remove a few thousandths
of material from the cutting edges for each sharpening. Endmills
having excessive wear will generally require 0.007" or more
material removed from the cutting edges for each sharpening, therefore,
you will have less total cutter life due to fewer sharpenings due
to the loss of cross sectional area and helix angle. Triple-T
recommends a maximum of 12% of the nominal diameter be removed before
replacing the tool.
Save End mill Packaging - The precision cutting edges common
to solid carbide end mills (like most cutting tools in general)
can be easily damaged when not protected properly. Our packaging
materials are configured into an inside and outside rigid plasic
tube which helps protect the end mills from major damage. The end
mill tubes should also be saved for subsequent re-packaging before
transporting the used end mills to your sharpening company. There
is another side benefit for saving the tubes, and that is, there
is less chance of your fingers getting cut when handling the end
mills. Whenever possible or practical, you should always wear protective
hand gloves when handling the end mills outside of their plastic
tubes.
